Objective

To urgently identify and rectify a critical water leakage from the cylinder head to prevent a major engine breakdown and minimize vessel downtime.

Challenge / Problem Context

  • Water Leakage from Cylinder Head:
    Early signs of water leakage were observed, which risked leading to severe damage to engine pistons and bearings.
  • Urgent Vessel Operation Schedule:
    The vessel had a strict deadline to resume operations within 3 days, leaving limited time for inspection and repairs.
  • Risk of Engine Breakdown:
    If not resolved immediately, the leakage could result in complete engine failure, halting the vessel and increasing operational costs.

What Did We Do?

  • Immediate Deployment of Service Engineer:
    Dispatched a qualified service engineer on an urgent basis to the vessel site.
  • Complete Removal of Cylinder Heads:
    All cylinder heads were carefully dismantled for inspection.
  • Pressure Testing to Identify Root Cause:
    Performed a thorough pressure test and identified exhaust seat leakage as the root cause of water ingress.
  • Replacement of Root caused Components:
    Used available OEM spare parts to replace damaged components.
  • Efficient Onboard Repair Execution:
    Completed the breakdown maintenance within the 3-day operational window.
