Summary About The Project
The Niigata ZP 41A underwent a major overhaul at a shipyard in Qatar, as part of routine maintenance. The overhaul covered extensive work on key components, ensuring that the engine, after 29,444 operational hours, was restored to optimal condition with all critical systems inspected and calibrated for continued reliable performance.
Planning
Number of Engineers: 6 (including team leader)
Planned Duration: 17 days
Job Carried Out: The team performed the overhaul by systematically disassembling and reassembling key engine and propulsion system components such as the gear case, vertical shaft, and propeller shaft assemblies, ensuring each part met OEM standards.
Procedure Carried Out (Scope of Work)
Gear Case Assembly: Drained oil, welded eye pad for z-peller dismantling, and successfully tested air pressure and stern tube seals.
Vertical Shaft Assembly: Safely disassembled, inspected, and reassembled the vertical shafts with new bearings.
Propeller Shaft Assembly: Dismounted propellers, replaced seals, bearings, and liners, and reassembled with the correct torque specifications.
Bed Assembly: Inspected and reassembled bed seal housings and liners, ensuring proper sealing and assembly.
Stern Tube Seal: Dismantled, cleaned, and replaced seals, liners, and gaskets.
Sea Trial: Conducted a sea trial, confirming all oil pressures and operational parameters were within satisfaction, with successful DP mode testing.
