Project
Engine derating and electronic governor adjustment were carried out on the Niigata 6L28HX Main Engine installed on a tugboat in India. The work was undertaken to achieve the required engine operating condition of 90% load, corresponding to a target bollard pull of 60 tonnes, as required for the upcoming charter and surveyor requirements.
The scope included electronic governor adjustment, digital output signal verification, governor position checks, engine starting and monitoring, followed by a bollard pull trial under surveyor supervision. During the trial, the vessel achieved 63 tonnes bollard pull at 710 RPM, corresponding to approximately 87% engine load as per the engine loading parameter graph. Although the factory load test report indicated that 724 RPM corresponds to 90% engine load, further adjustment was not carried out as the achieved 63-tonne bollard pull exceeded the required 60-tonne target and was considered satisfactory. Following successful completion of the trial, the original engine settings were restored as requested. The engine derating and electronic governor adjustment work was successfully completed on the Niigata 6L28HX Main Engine installed on the tugboat in India.
