Project
The compressor casing, gas admission casing, compressor wheel, compressor-side insert, turbine rotor, turbine-side insert, compressor diffuser, turbine nozzle ring, bearing casings, bearing flanges, covers and related components were inspected and cleaned.
The inspection identified carbon and oily deposits on various components. The components suitable for reuse were cleaned and retained, while components requiring replacement were replaced with new parts. The existing compressor wheel was found damaged and was replaced with a new compressor wheel.
The new compressor wheel was assembled with the turbine shaft and prepared for dynamic balancing.
The complete rotor assembly was prepared for dynamic balancing as required.
During the balancing process, an incorrect balancing method was carried out at the local workshop. The rotor and turbine blades were drilled and additional material was added instead of following the required balancing method. Due to this process, the rotor could not be reused.
The compressor wheel was subsequently assembled with the turbine shaft and sent for dynamic balancing.Turbocharger clearances were measured before and after the overhaul. The recorded checks included axial, tilting and radial clearances at the compressor end and turbine end.
The relevant measurements were recorded as part of the calibration report for future reference. The turbocharger was reassembled using a new complete service kit. The replaced components included thrust bearing, bearing bushes, thrust ring, counter-thrust ring, retaining rings, piston rings and O-ring seals.
New bearings and other required service components were installed during the overhaul.Leave a Reply
