Summary About The Project

The project scope included cylinder head repairs, cooler servicing, and complete reinstallation and testing of the affected engine systems.
Key deliverables:
  • Restoring reliability by repairing water leakage issues
  • Cleaning and testing vital cooling systems
  • Ensuring safe and efficient operation through parameter validation
The engine was successfully restored, passing idle and full load trials at 750 RPM with satisfactory parameters.

Planning

  • Team Composition: 1 Engineer (Team Lead)
  • Work Scope:
    - Overhaul of cylinder heads
    - Servicing of both oil coolers
    - Engine reassembly, tappet setting, and trial run checks

Procedure Carried Out

1. Cylinder Heads:
  • All Port-side cylinder heads dismantled and transferred to the workshop
  • Valve guides, inlet and exhaust valve seats, injector sleeves, valves, and springs replaced
  • Cylinder head pressure testing and valve lapping completed
  • Cylinder heads transported back and installed on the engine block with new O-rings and gaskets
2. Starboard Side:
  • Unit #6 cylinder head replaced by onboard team prior to Neptunus intervention
  • Unit #5 cylinder head found heavily rusted during inspection
3. Oil Coolers:
  • Both Port and Starboard lubricating oil coolers dismantled, cleaned, assembled, and pressure tested
4. Final Assembly & Testing:
  • Rocker arms, injectors, indicator valves, and push rods fitted on cylinder heads
  • Engine water filled and checked for leakage (none found)
  • Tappet setting completed
  • Lubricating oil cooler reinstalled
  • Engine started at idle, tested up to 750 RPM – all operating parameters satisfactory
5. Recommendations:
  • Cylinder Liner O-Rings: Replacement recommended at the earliest for trouble-free operations (excluded by customer due to time constraints).
  • Coolant Quality: Maintain proper coolant to prevent scaling and erosion in water jackets.
  • Major Overhaul: Strongly recommended as per OEM guidelines.
  • Monitoring: Regular monitoring of engine parameters advised.

Result

The troubleshooting of the yanmar engine was successfully done and restored to stable operational condition within the customer’s tight timeframe. Despite constraints, the Yanmar Engine Repair services provided by team ensured safe, reliable, and efficient performance, enabling the vessel to continue operations without delays.
