Today, on September 20th, 2023, we are thrilled to celebrate the momentous launch ceremony of India’s inaugural ‘Make in India’ tugboat – the UY 161, boasting an impressive 62T Bollard Pull. This remarkable vessel was meticulously crafted at Cochin Shipyard’s Malpe shipbuilding yard, commissioned by Ocean Sparkle Limited. It represents a significant stride in realizing the vision of the Make in India Initiative while aligning perfectly with the government’s commitment to exclusively procure or charter tugboats manufactured on Indian soil. This endeavor not only bolsters the resurgence of Indian shipbuilding but also reinforces our journey toward self-sufficiency.
Among the array of equipment, Niigata Engines and Z-Pellers were meticulously chosen by OSL for their exceptional agility and operational efficiency. As representatives of Niigata, we take immense pride in being a part of this historic moment.
