Condition-Based Maintenance (CBM) is a maintenance strategy where equipment health is continuously assessed using objective condition data, allowing maintenance actions to be performed based on actual machinery condition rather than fixed time intervals.
For modern vessel operations, CBM has become increasingly important as fleet complexity grows and operational demands intensify. Traditional Planned Maintenance Systems (PMS), driven by calendar-based intervals, often result in unnecessary maintenance or delayed fault detection, neither of which guarantees reliability or cost efficiency. Recognizing this shift, classification societies now permit CBM, provided maintenance decisions are supported by continuous, objective condition monitoring and aligned with approved class requirements.
This technical seminar is designed to provide shipowners, technical managers, and marine engineers with a clear, practical, and classification-aligned understanding of how to transition from PMS to CBM, including the regulatory framework, monitoring depth, and real-world implementation aligned with classification expectation.
