Niigata Power Systems based in Japan has been manufacturing internal combustion engines since 1919. In 1989 Niigata developed and manufactured its first Low NOx gas engine. The current series of AG engines is the third generation of gas engines manufactured by Niigata. Employing micro pilot ignition systems instead of spark plug ignition, Niigata has been able to control the combustion process more effectively. Adopting the Miller Cycle for combustion and using high performance turbo chargers Niigata has achieved electrical efficiencies in excess of 47.5 % on its 28 AG series.

Niigata Gas Engines are available in 2.2, 3.2 and 5.8 MW versions for Natural Gas, Digester Gas, Coal Mine Methane Gas and Land Fill Gas.
